What is Newborn Adoption?

The term Newborn adoption is what happens after the birth of your baby at the hospital where he or she is born. Moreover, you can create an adoption plan while you are still pregnant or after birth. If you choose to place your baby for newborn adoption, you may feel more relief feeling as you have finalized your decision. This also goes with you creating an adoption plan before giving birth to your child. Moreover, this allows room for you to not worry about the future of your child. This means that more time can be focused on being healthy and having a safe delivery. Therefore, placing your newborn baby up for adoption is not more difficult than regular adoption. The steps may be a little different, but you will still go through the adoption process for your child.

Here are some factors to know about when you are placing your newborn baby for adoption.

Creating an Adoption Plan in Texas

When you make an adoption plan, you are making an outlined plan that is customized for your needs. You have many choices when it comes to creating this plan. You can choose the type of communication you want for you and your child. Another choice is the type of family you want to raise your child. You get to choose an adoptive family for your newborn. Also, you can create your personalized hospital and birth plan.

The Type of Communication between You and Your Baby’s Adoptive Family

When you are placing your newborn for adoption, you will get to choose what type of adoption you want for your baby. The three types of adoption are open adoption, semi-open adoption, and closed adoption.

What is Open Adoption?

Open adoption is when the contact information of both you and potential adoptive parents is shared. This means that no barriers are put up to prevent contact during your adoption journey.

Furthermore, the adoptive parents may be invited to be present in preparations for labor and birth. Post-birth, some form of contact is put between you and the adoptive family.

However, the contact level varies across families. For some, contact may occur in the form of e-mail or updated letters with pictures only. Additionally, there is no in-person contact occurring until the child is older. For other families, the birth mother may become almost a member of the new family. This means that they are invited to major celebrations and gatherings.

What is Semi-Open Adoption?

A Semi-Open Adoption occurs when you are given a choice about which parents will have the opportunity to raise the child. Moreover, you are presented with many profiles of potential adoptive families, and then you can choose which family you believe has the most to offer for your child. These profiles contain a lot of descriptive information about each potential adoptive family.

Thereof, personal contact between you and your chosen adoptive parents may or may not occur during the adoption process. This depends on the preferences of the various parties. Some families choose to connect with each other during the period leading up to the birth of the child, and some choose to be more anonymous. Contacts between you and adoptive parents will stop following once the final placement is present for your child with the adoptive parents (if you choose semi-open adoption).

What is Closed Adoption?

A Closed Adoption occurs when you and the adoptive parents have no contact, meaning that you never meet and never gain information about each other. Moreover, if you choose this type of adoption, you will surrender your child to an adoption agency. Therefore, you will not receive information about who adopts your child. All records identifying who you are will then be sealed by the court.

This type of adoption has decreased in popularity in recent years. This is because the majority of birth mothers now choose to have some form of communication with their child and adoptive family.
