What Happens at the Hospital During a Hospital Adoption?

By Kaitlyn Chrisemer

If you’re a woman who is unexpectedly pregnant, you’re likely searching the internet for help. We at Adoption Choices of Texas are here to help keep you informed and supported. There are many unplanned pregnancy options to choose from. If you’ve decided adoption is the right path for you and your child, you probably still have questions. You’re likely searching “adoption for my baby in Texas” or “giving up my baby for adoption.” The adoption process can be confusing and stressful for birth mothers. Our adoption agencies want to help alleviate some of that stress.

Adoption Choices of Texas can help you make your adoption and hospital plans and support you along the way. A lot of birth mothers are unclear about the finer details of the adoption process. These unknown parts can cause unnecessary stress in an already emotional time of your life. One of the biggest unknowns is what happens at the hospital if you’re putting your child up for adoption. So first, let’s go over the pre-hospital planning.

If you need help with adoption now, you can call us at 945-444-0333, text us at 945-444-0333, or email us here.

Making a Hospital Plan in the Adoption Process

At our adoption agencies, our counselors will work with you every step. This includes discussing the events that will happen around the due date before arriving at the hospital. Each birth mother has different needs, so every hospital visit is a little different. We will work with you to figure out what you need. Your hospital experience will be unique to you. Your counselor will help arrange any and all accommodations you may want during your stay.

Adoption Process at the Hospital

At the hospital, your counselor will be with you, by your side, to help ensure your needs are met. All you will have to worry about at the hospital is taking care of yourself and giving birth. After the birth, you will sign the adoption finalization forms. You can finalize the adoption 48 hours after giving birth. After signing the forms, the adoptive family will take the baby home from the hospital when everything is ready.

What if I Change my Mind at the Hospital?

Until the point when you sign the finalization papers, after the child’s birth, you are allowed to change your mind. However, you cannot change your mind after you sign the finalization papers. After the paperwork is signed, the adoption is final.

We understand that letting go can be difficult, especially right after birth. However, our counselor will be with you to discuss your emotions. Remember, leading up to the birth. You felt adoption was the best option for you and the child. We have resources, including professional counselors who will help you before, during, and after birth. At Adoption Choices of Texas, we are truly here for you every step of the way.

Last Minute Hospital Adoption

If you have decided adoption is the right choice for you and your baby late in your pregnancy, we can still help. Adoption plans are often made in advance, but our agencies can still help you at the hospital. We can help you make an adoption plan, even on short notice. Once you call us, we’ll send a counselor to help you with the paperwork. Our counselors are very experienced, so they’ll help ensure you understand the paperwork and don’t cause extra stress.

Depending on how involved in the adoption process you want to be, our counselor can help you make decisions too. Even from the hospital, you can still have a say on who the adoptive family will be if you want. Plus, you’ll get to decide what you need regarding our other services like counseling and financial support. Adoption Choices of Texas is here to help you no matter where you are in your journey.
