The Adoption Process in Texas
If you’re looking to learn a bit more about the adoption process, you’ve come to the right place! Adoption Choices of Texas is a certified adoption agency, and we know a thing or two about adoptions. Whether you’re just looking at Austin adoption options or are ready to start your own adoption plan, it’s great to learn more about the adoption process. It starts with a conversation with one of our adoption counselors. We can match you with a variety of resources to make your pregnancy as smooth as possible. Our counselor will let you choose from families ready to adopt and help you decide how much contact to have with the adoptive family. Here’s a look at what the adoption process may look like for you at Adoption Choices of Texas.
If you need help with adoption now, you can call us at 945-444-0333, text us at 945-444-0333, or email us here.
Step 1: Contacting Adoption Choices of Texas
Give us a call or text at our 24/7 hotline to take the first steps towards an adoption at 945-444-0333. During this call, you can start arranging the first meeting with your adoption counselor. That meeting will include discussions of your adoption plan along with information on what to expect throughout the process. Remember that a call is not a commitment. We’ll be happy to help even if you only have some questions or are looking to just learn a bit more about adoption.
Step 2: Matching you with Financial Resources
Particularly for an unplanned pregnancy, we know one of the biggest struggles for expectant parents is money. Everything seems to cost money. Visits to your doctor, transportation, housing, maternity clothes, and other expenses will leave you worn out. Especially if you are a single mother without any other support, it may seem impossible at first to ever pay for a pregnancy.
With Adoption Choices of Texas, there’s no need to worry about financial resources. With a combination of our own services, local state assistance, and assistance from the adoptive family, we’ll help make sure all of your bills get paid. We can help you see if you qualify for work leave and help pay for the healthcare you need throughout your pregnancy. Money won’t be an issue when you work with us.
Step 3: Choosing an Adoptive Family
At any time, you can check out the families waiting to adopt on our website. If you chose to adopt with us, you’d have to pick the adoptive families that are available. Your adoption caseworker will help you learn a little more about each of the parents waiting to adopt. No matter who you choose, you can feel secure knowing that all of our adoptive families have passed their home studies. This means that their home is safe for children, they will support your child no matter what, and they are happy and healthy together.
Step 4: Choose the Best Adoption Type for You
During this phase, you can choose from one of three types of adoptions. These are open, semi-open, and closed adoptions. In an open adoption, you share contact information with the adoptive family and may interview the adoptive family. In a semi-open adaption, you can receive information about your child post-adoption, but you aren’t quite as involved. In a closed adoption, you don’t share any identifying information at all with the adoptive family. We generally recommend either open or semi-open adoptions.
Step 5: Waiting for Your Due Date and Finishing Up
Once the paperwork is done and you’ve been matched with an adoptive family, it’s time to use your time for some rest and relaxation. Your adoption counselor will keep in touch with you to make sure everything is in order. Anytime you have concerns or just need someone to talk to, your counselor will work with you. Once the birth date finally arrives, your adoption counselor will be your advocate at the hospital. We’ll handle talking to adoption attorneys and making sure everything is in order. You spend your time focusing on yourself. After the child has moved on to the adoptive family, we’ll continue to provide you with assistance for several weeks after the birth of your child.

Meet the author: Joshua Boulet is an aspiring journalist and writer with a particular fondness for research and social sciences. He loves music, writing, reading, video games and most art, and anything creative he can get his hands on. Boulet believes that there’s too much good stuff out there and not enough time to see it all. He grew up on video games: the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, Mario Kart, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Legend of Zelda. The music of rhythm games led him to an interest in that, and the investigative journalism of Jason Schreier inspired him to discover the importance of journalism as an industry. That interest in developers’ lives led him to an interest in social justice and how the world could maybe be made into a better place. “All this to say, there is certainly a line I can draw between me obsessively playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and me interviewing my sociology professor about how to read academic articles. Those surprising through lines fascinate me all the same. At my best, I’m a person who gets to be constantly fascinated by the lives and work of other people.”
His favorite quote is from his favorite jazz musician:
“A genius is the one most like himself” – Thelonious Monk.
