What Types of Post-Placement Counseling Are Offered?

Part of the adoption process at Adoption Choices of Texas is continual care following your child’s birth. Our post-placement program includes:

  • Counseling with an Adoption Specialist.
  • Lunch meetings with a counselor.
  • Access to grief workbooks.
  • Support groups.
  • Referrals for continued care – medical and mental.

Additional programs will be offered based on the year and location. Each part of the program is in place for you so that no matter what mental state you may find yourself in after your child’s placement, you will be able to find healing. You will even have access to licensed social workers who will work with you as you wrestle with any mental health struggles you may have. It’s not easy to go through the adoption process, especially as a birth mother, but these various programs are in place so that you can find healing and peace following the adoption of your child.

What Care Should I Expect to Receive Through Post-Placement Counseling?

Through our treatment plans, you will be able to seek care to fit your various needs post-placement. For example, if you are struggling with grief, we will provide you with resources and counseling that is aimed towards your struggle with grief. If you are struggling with loneliness or guilt, we will channel your care plan to help you deal with those emotions. Our main goal through post-placement counseling is to help you reach a spot where you can find peace regarding the adoption of your child and can move on confidently with your life. Of course, all of this care is optional, but we encourage you to see it as a helpful resource that will provide a sense of comfort as you make the decision to choose adoption. Adoption Choices of Texas cares about you and will do all they can to make the adoption process as smooth as possible for you.

Who is Eligible for Post-Placement Counseling?

We will work with whoever reaches out to us and help them form an adoption plan that suits their needs and desires. As the birth mother, all you have to do is find one of our locations and seek care from that location following birth. We have locations in AustinDallasHouston, and San Antonio. Additionally, if you are concerned about approaching adoption as a birth mother who is undocumented or not a citizen of the United States, visit our Adoption Niños page for more information. We believe that anyone should be able to choose adoption for their child, and Adoption Choices of Texas provides the opportunity to choose this route for any birth mother out there. We hope you will reach out to us with full confidence that at the end of the process, you won’t feel abandoned to deal with the aftermath of adoption. We never want you to think for even a second that you will have to face the subsequent grief, loneliness, and guilt that may ensue post-placement alone. Instead, you can be certain that, as an agency, we will provide you with personalized care that will guide you through the emotional process of adoption and help you reach a place of stability.

How Long Will Post-Placement Counseling Last?

Your post-placement counseling length will vary depending on your specific needs as the birth mother. Directly following birth, you will work hand-in-hand with an Adoption Specialist and receive your initial counseling through one of our staff members. If we find that you need care that extends beyond what we offer as an agency, we will refer you to a well-equipped professional that will continue your care until you reach a point of stability. However, we offer monthly support groups that meet at each of the local offices and host occasional support programs that take the form of birth mother gatherings, Christmas programs, or other events that vary annually.

How Does This Affect My Life Post-Placement?

We hope that you will be able to use the knowledge you will have to support and care for post-placement to give you peace as you navigate the adoption process. As an agency, we won’t stop investing in your life as a birth mother even once your child has been born and adopted. This support system is a tool for you that will assist you in setting your life back on track and helping you overcome any mental obstacles you may face. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to Adoption Choices of Texas, where our team is waiting to help you in any way they can.
