Answers To Your Common Questions

What financial support can I receive during my pregnancy?
It is very important that you are safe, stable, and healthy during your pregnancy and after you give birth. We will make sure that your needs for rent, groceries, transportation, phone service, and maternity clothing are all met. Your adoption counselor will make a budget with you and make sure you have what you need to avoid financial stress throughout your pregnancy.
Does the father of the baby have to participate in the adoption?
Not usually. If you don’t know who the father is or how to contact him, he doesn’t have to participate in the adoption process. If you do know how to contact him, he doesn’t have to participate, but we are required to notify him about the adoption plan. If the father of the baby is your husband, he will have to participate in the adoption plan.
What if my family doesn’t want me to do an adoption?
Making an adoption plan is your choice and is not up to anyone else, but having the support of your family can be very important in going through an adoption plan. Your adoption counselor can speak with your family, if you wish, to help them understand how adoption works and what modern adoption looks like.
Can I pick the family I want to make an adoption plan with?
Absolutely. Your adoption counselor will work with you about what matters most to you in an adoption plan and will only show you options that meet your needs. You can see some of the families we are working with here.
How do I know that a good family will adopt my baby?
Every family that works with us is required to go through a very thorough screening process called a “home study”. In this process they have to do background checks with their names and fingerprints, submit letters of reference and proof of financial security, and they have to meet with a social worker in their home to do an evaluation. Also, you can select the family that you think is best for the adoption plan you want to make.
What kind of contact will I have the baby and the adoptive family after the adoption?
Whatever kind of contact you want, during your pregnancy and after the adoption. Sometimes the women who contact us for help want a “closed” adoption without any contact, other times they want an “open” adoption with a lot of contact that will continue for years after the adoption. Most of the women we help want something in the middle. Your adoption counselor work with you to figure out what will be best for your needs and we will only give you options for families that will meet those needs.
Will I have counseling about making an adoption plan for my baby?
Yes. You will have a personal adoption counselor whose job is to help you understand the adoption process; explore your needs and feelings in making a plan for the adoption process; and to support you throughout the adoption process before, during, and after the baby is born. You can always reach us 24/7.

Are you asking, “How can I place my baby for adoption?”

Dealing with an unexpected or unwanted pregnancy can be hard and there is a lot to think about right now. Getting information about your options is the first step in empowering yourself to make the best choice for yourself and your child. At this point, you might be considering parenting, adoption, or abortion. It is important to give your options a lot of thought, and we are here to help you explore the adoption option.
Why Choose Adoption?
No one can tell you why you should or shouldn’t make an adoption plan. This decision is yours to make. The decision of making an adoption plan is obviously not an easy one, but sometimes it is the best choice you have. We are here to give you adoption information and counseling to provide you with resources that will help you make an informed decision.

Some things you may want to consider while making your decision are:

  • Financial security
  • Family involvement
  • The stability of your home and relationships
  • Your plans for the future
  • What you think is best for your child

Every situation is unique and we cannot make a checklist of why anyone has to make an adoption plan. Hopefully these topics will help you start to make the decision about whether adoption is the right choice for you.

What is Open Adoption?
Modern adoption can allow you to create a relationship with your child’s adoptive parents that can give you as much, or as little, contact as you want.

Whether you want a more open adoption that includes regular communication and even visits, or a more closed adoption with more privacy and closure, Adoption Choices of Texas will help you make the adoption plan you want.

Counseling
You may be worried about what to do next, but at Adoption Choices of Texas a professional adoption counselor will be with you every step of the way. She will make sure that you are safe and stable. She will help you pick the adoptive family that is just right for you. She will even be there for you at the hospital. It is our commitment to you to provide the personal support you need to have a positive adoption experience.

We are not here to make your choices for you or to tell you that adoption will always be an easy solution. Adoption, even with ongoing contact after the adoption, can still be challenging and it can be natural to experience grief after the adoption. Your counselor will be there for you to help you process and deal with your emotions in a healthy way.

Financial Assistance
One of our top priorities is making sure you are safe an stable. Your adoption counselor will work on your needs and your budget to identify areas where we can help. During your pregnancy, and after it, it is important that you have safe housing, good medical care, healthy groceries, and reliable transportation. Part of our job is making sure these are all available to you.
Finding the Right Adoptive Family
If you choose adoption, the most important decision is picking a good “match” for you and your baby. This means finding a family that will have all the qualities you are looking for in a family for your child. Every family who works with Adoption Choices of Texas is carefully screened and background-checked to make sure they will be a safe, stable, and loving home for a child. We will only show you possible families if we believe they are great match for your adoption plan.

Birth Mother Stories

Our experience with open adoption through Adoption Choices of Texas has been very positive. To us, open adoption means giving our child the best life possible, while still getting to be a part of it. We knew from the beginning that we wouldn’t be able to provide our son with everything he needed, so we agreed adoption was what was best for all three of us.

Birth Parents

My experience with this agency is outstanding. Never could I ever imagined meeting people who cared so much about my needs and making sure that I was comfortable with this adoption. Adoption itself is a very complicated procedure and also a very emotional rollercoaster but with the help of Adoption Choices of Texas I got through it and now I have no regrets.
