How to Celebrate Birth Fathers on Father’s Day

Whether or not the birth father plays a large role in your adoptee’s life, this upcoming Father’s Day could mean a lot to him. While he may not have been a part of the decision or the adoption journey itself, simply reaching out could benefit him in more ways than you know. Down below Adoption Choices of Texas created a short list of ways to let him know that on this Father’s Day he is remembered, and to help him celebrate birth fathers in his own way.

Even if you have not interacted with the birth father in a long time or he made it clear that he did not wish to be involved, he doubtless thinks about his child from time to time. This is especially true on Father’s Day. Acknowledging the birth father, even by the smallest amount, could make his day truly special.

How to Celebrate Birth Fathers on Father’s Day

  • Write him a letter

While it might seem a bit old-fashioned, a few kind words sent in the mail can mean a lot. Filling him in on your child’s development and accomplishments would make it that much more special, as he is doubtless asking these questions himself. If possible, a personal touch from the child themselves would elevate the message unimaginably!

  • Schedule a get together

Even if the child cannot be present, meeting up and talking about your child’s development can be meaningful. Having someone close to talk to on this special day can make it unforgettable, as well as assure him that the best decision was made. If everyone agreed, bringing the birth father, the parents and the child together could make for a very impactful, positive and fun party!

  • Give him a call

While it might seem small, just letting him know that he hasn’t been forgotten on Father’s Day day can make a world of difference. If the adoptive parents are on board with their child being involved, this can make it all the more significant. You could even set up a Skype call, and give everyone the opportunity to see each other’s face; no travel necessary!

  • Share a few photos from the family

With the adoptive parents’ help, getting together a small collection of pictures and sharing them with the birth father could be a great way of letting him catch up. Only a few photos are necessary and will let him see what the child has been up to recently. It will also show that everyone in the family made time to think of him, which can truly mean the world to him.

Celebrate Birth Fathers

Even if you see him fairly often, taking the extra time on Father’s Day can really make it a day to remember. Particularly any interaction with the child themselves could have a huge impression. Regardless of what you decide to do, know that it will make this Father’s Day something special. Not everyone takes the time to help celebrate birth fathers, which makes it that much more remarkable when you do.
