Financial Assistance for Birth Mothers in Texas
If you are a birth mother considering adoption, you may have a few questions and concerns about the financial aspects of the process. Even if you have not made the decision to place your baby for adoption, getting to know a bit more about the options available to you will help you learn more about the process as a whole.
When the time comes to develop a plan with one of our counselors, they will make certain that your needs are met, but knowing what to expect will help make everything that much easier.
Financial Assistance
Regardless of the status of your pregnancy, our adoption professionals will work with you to make certain that all of your financial needs are met. This means we can provide assistance with:
- Rent
- Groceries
- Transportation
- Phone services
- Maternity clothing
Your adoption caseworker will help you develop a budget plan to make sure that you have nothing to worry about before, during and after your pregnancy. Even if you need assistance with something other than the items listed above, your adoption caseworker will work with you so that your pregnancy can be as stress free as possible.
Government-Specific Financial Assistance
In addition to the benefits provided by our agency, there are a few government programs that exist to provide financial assistance to pregnant women.
- SNAP – The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides financial assistance with food and groceries. You will be given an EBT card, and depending on your income and financial situation it will be loaded with a set amount each month to be used for groceries.
- WIC – The Women, Infants, and Children program similarly helps mothers pay for food and baby formula, this time through food vouchers. These vouchers will be provided for the mother and the child during the pregnancy, and may continue until the child is five years old.
- Medicaid (Texas) – Medicaid is a state run program that helps provide discounted rates for medical insurance, as well as helps pay for any medications needed during pregnancy.
Keep in mind that your counselor will help you apply for any of the government programs that fit your situation, as well as set you up with our agency specific benefits mentioned above.
Medical Care
Keeping you safe and healthy during your pregnancy is our number one priority. This means that we will set you up with experienced doctors and nurses to help provide you with any medical care you need. Your adoption caseworker will work with you before the adoption to discuss any health concerns that you have, in order to make sure that your medical needs are met. This can range from prenatal care to something as simple as a health checkup.
A Safe Place to Stay
Regardless of your situation, if you do not have a stable place to stay, we will make arrangements for you. This way you will have a temporary and safe place to stay throughout your pregnancy. Your adoption caseworker will ask you about your living situation at the same time they do your financial assistance needs. Make sure to mention anything specific so that nothing you need is left out.
Supportive Counseling
Even before you make the commitment to adopt, our adoption counselors are here to support you. We are available 24/7 to answer any questions that you have, especially during your pregnancy. Our counselors are extremely experienced and know what you are going through, so please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time of day or night.
