All About Texas Adoption Agencies

By Jessica Hall

This is the beginning of a journey. You’ve found out you’re pregnant, and now you need to decide how you’ll move forward. This is an important stage as a birth mother because all of the information you learn now will impact your adoption process. There are many different kinds of adoption agencies and support you can receive. At Adoption Choices of Texas, we’ll help you understand what your options are. And empower you to make the best decisions for you and the baby – your choices are our support. So, let’s get started with the basics.

What is a private adoption agency?

private adoption agency is often referred to as an independent adoption and is commonly used for infant adoptions in America. With a private adoption in Texas, the birth parents usually have placed their child for adoption. A legal attorney will provide services to both the birth mother and the chosen adoptive family. The attorney will help assign the legal rights of the child over to the adoptive parents. Typically, the birth mother will have more contact with the adoptive family and child if open adoption is chosen.

Our adoption agency Dallas is a private agency that goes above and beyond to help birth mothers create adoption plans built on love, trust, and acceptance. We never want you to feel like you’re giving your child up for adoption. Adoption is the opportunity to help others create a family they aren’t sure they’ll ever get to have. It’s a beautiful and very courageous decision to make.

How is private adoption different from public adoption?

A public adoption agency is often referred to as foster care. The children available through public adoptions vary in age, have special needs, or have siblings. Parents of children in public adoption agencies have not always given up their rights to the children. Sometimes the children are removed from the home. Typically, the hope is for these children to eventually go back to their birth families. It is also very common that birth parents are not involved with the child or children in any way.

Does the birth father have to be involved in adoption process?

In short, no. As the birth mother, you’re the lead decision maker when you choose adoption for my baby. The birth father does have rights to the child, but the way he is involved can vary. If he’s unsupportive of adoption and wants custody of the child, it could lead to a court hearing. This doesn’t mean he is guaranteed custody. He will need to prove that he is fit as a birth father and able to provide the necessary care.

If the birth father is supportive of the adoption but doesn’t want to be involved, he doesn’t have to. He is able to release his rights to the child and leave the entire adoption plan up to the birth mother. If he does want to be involved, this only means he will be involved in the process. However, the decisions made are ultimately up to the birth mother.

Will I receive assistance for giving up my baby?

Many birth mothers have to go through the adoption process on their own, which can feel financially overwhelming, as with all of our agencies, the adoption agency in Dallas is always 100% free and confidential to all birth mothers. You will not receive compensation for the child. But, you could potentially receive financial assistance for doctor’s appointments and needs if eligible.

Ultimately, if you qualify, your prenatal medical appointments are paid. If you’re not wanting to receive medical care or don’t qualify for assistance, no prenatal care to choose adoption is still an option. Other needs that could be covered include maternity clothing, bills, rent, and more. Ask your chosen agency about how you can see if you can be considered for financial assistance.
